One throne per kingdom. Everyone wants it.

War for Power is a massively multiplayer online real-time strategy game. Battles are classic RTS: they play out live, and you command your units as the fight unfolds. Between battles, your armies march across a world map shared with every other player in your kingdom.

Raid bandit camps, claim resources before your rivals do, and join battles of up to eight armies, four against four. Each server is a kingdom with a single throne, and it belongs to whoever can take it and hold it.

Coming to iPhone, iPad, Android and PC.

  • Raid bandit camps

NPC bandit camps are scattered across the map. Attack them to test your army before you take on other players.

  • PvP up to 4 v 4

March on other players and fight in real time. Battles scale up to eight armies at once, four on each side.

  • Claim the map

Resources sit out in the open on the world map. Send an army to claim them, and be ready to defend what you take.

  • Fight for the throne

Every server is a kingdom with one throne. Take it, hold it, and rule until someone stronger arrives.

How a battle works

From the Barracks to the battle report: what happens when you attack another army.

  1. Train an army

A Barracks trains squads, not single soldiers: a Fighter squad is twelve swordsmen, an Archer squad eight bowmen, a War Elephant one giant. Fill the Barracks with up to six finished squads and send them out as an army.

  2. March across the kingdom

Your army appears on the shared world map and marches in real time, in plain view of every other player. Pick a destination or an enemy army and you see the travel time before you commit. The march carries on even if you close the game.

  3. Catch your target

An attacking army follows its target. If the enemy changes course, yours re-aims. When it gets within reach, both armies lock into a battle on the map and the fight is on.

  4. Command the fight live

The battle opens on its own field, attackers on one side and defenders on the other. Your squads sit on a hotbar with health and headcount. Select one, tap the ground to move it or tap an enemy to attack it. Squads that come under attack fight back on their own, and every unit paths around obstacles. Up to eight armies can take part, four a side.

  5. Watch the lines thin

As a squad takes damage, soldiers fall one by one, so you can see which flank is winning without reading a number. Counters matter: Pikemen punish cavalry, Archers shoot over walls, Rams break walls, Medics keep squads standing.

  6. Win, lose, rebuild

When one side has no squads left, the battle ends and both players see Victory or Defeat. The winning army marches back onto the map. The losing army is gone, and its Barracks is free to train the next one.

War for Power, in plain answers

Short, factual answers to the questions we get asked most.

What is War for Power?

War for Power is a massively multiplayer online real-time strategy game (MMO RTS) by Explosive Games, an independent studio in Dallas, Texas. You build a city, train an army and play in a shared kingdom with every other player on your server. Battles play out live and you command your units as they happen.

How is it different from Rise of Kingdoms or Clash of Clans?

In Rise of Kingdoms, armies meet on the map but the fight is worked out automatically from troop stats and commander skills. In Clash of Clans, you place troops and they fight on their own against a base whose owner is away. In War for Power the battle is a live RTS fight: you move and retarget each squad while it happens, on a shared map where the other player can be in the same fight commanding theirs.

Is War for Power free to play?

Yes. War for Power is free to download and play. It contains no advertising. Optional in-app purchases are planned; battles are decided by how you play.

Which platforms is it on, and does progress carry across devices?

iPhone, iPad, Android and PC. One account works on every platform, so you can play the same kingdom on your phone and your computer.

When does War for Power launch?

A launch date has not been announced yet. It will be announced here, on Discord and by email to everyone on the launch list before it goes public anywhere else.

What is in the game at launch?

Twelve troop types across ten upgrade levels, NPC bandit camps at four difficulty tiers, capturable gold and wood farms, player-versus-player battles of up to four armies a side, clans, and one throne per kingdom.

Is War for Power the same as Game of War, War of Power or Power War?

No. War for Power is a new MMO real-time strategy game from Explosive Games, an independent studio in Dallas, Texas. It is not related to Game of War, War of Power: The Last Fight or Power War: The First Men, which are separate games from other studios.

Does War for Power work offline, and what does it need to run?

No. Every kingdom lives on a shared server and battles are fought live against other players, so the game needs an internet connection. Marches and build timers keep running while you are away, so you can close the game and come back to the result. Device and system requirements will be listed on each store page when it opens.

Is War for Power pay-to-win?

No. Battles are decided by how you command your squads, not by how much you spend. The optional purchases planned for launch save time, such as finishing a build or training timer early; they do not sell stronger troops or anything another player cannot earn by playing.
